Accessibility

The SJD Barcelona Children's Hospital has implemented the following measures to allow users to easily access all website content and functions.

Commitment to accessibility

The SJD Barcelona Children's Hospital has firmly committed to ensuring accessibility on its website, in compliance with Royal Decree 1112/2018 of 7 September on mobile access of public sector websites and applications.

Our philosophy of providing care extends to our digital content. We believe that healthcare information and services should be within reach for everyone, without barriers that hinder access, regardless of our users’ technical, physical, sensory or cognitive skills.

This declaration of accessibility applies to the entire website https://www.sjdhospitalbarcelona.org, published in October 2023.

Compliance statement

This website partially complies with Royal Decree 1112/2018. Although significant improvements have been made and an advanced assistance tool has been implemented, there may exist some exceptions of areas currently undergoing improvement, as detailed below.

Non-accessible content

The content listed below is not accessible for the following main reasons:

  1. Lack of compliance with Royal Decree 1112/2018:
    • System documents: Some PDF documents published since the launch of the website may not fully comply with accessibility requirements. These are being reviewed and gradually updated.
    • Multimedia content: There may be videos without professional subtitles or detailed transcriptions available, which would constitute partial non-compliance with point 1.2 of the WCAG.
    • Third-party content: Content that does not belong to the hospital, such as social media feeds or integrated maps, cannot be modified by us and may present accessibility barriers.
  2. Disproportionate burden:
    • Not applicable.

Preparation of this declaration

This declaration was prepared on 17 June 2025.

The chosen method to prepare the declaration was a review and test process by an external accessibility provider (EqualWeb), whose results and remediations are listed on this page, complemented by periodic internal self-assessments by the hospital.

Last revision of the declaration: 17 June 2025.

Measures implemented to improve accessibility

To ensure AA compliance with WCAG 2.2 guidelines and to offer an inclusive web experience, the hospital has implemented EqualWeb's AI-based automated accessibility solution. This tool has a double focus:

  1. Automatic remediation and site compatibility: The EqualWeb service constantly analyses the website's code (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) and automatically applies corrections to ensure both compliance with WCAG 2.2 guidelines and also compatibility with accessibility technology, such as the JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver screen readers.
  2. Accessible user interface: By clicking the accessibility icon, any user can personalise their viewing and navigation experience to suit their needs. Available functions include:
    • Preconfigured accessibility profiles:
      • Visually impaired profile: Improve overall visualisation of the website.
      • Epilepsy profile: Remove flashing and reduce colour to protect photosensitive individuals.
      • Learning profile: Assistance options to help with reading and concentration.
      • ADHD profile: Reduce distractions to improve focus.
      • Blindness profile: Activate full compatibility mode for screen readers.
      • Keyboard Navigation function (motor): Allows users to navigate the website using key commands such as Tab, Shift+Tab and Enter.
  3. Content and reading adjustments:
    • Scaled content: Increase the size of all content to 200%.
    • Readable fonts: Change the font to one that is easy to read.
    • Highlight headers and links: Visually highlight navigation elements.
    • Text magnifier: Increase the size of text when hovering the cursor over it.
    • Text adjustments: Modify font size and line spacing individually.
    • Text alignment: Align texts to the left, right, centre or justified.
  4. Colour and visualisation adjustments:
    • Contrast modes: Dark contrast, bright contrast and high contrast modes to improve readability.
    • Monochrome, high saturation, and the ability to manually adjust the colour of body text, headers and background colour
    • Invert colours: Invert the website’s colour palette.
  5. Navigation and orientation adjustments:
    • Mute sounds and block animations: Eliminate auditory and visual distractions.
    • Hide images: Allow for text-only navigation by not loading images.
    • Reading guide and Read focus: Tools to make it easier to follow lines of text.
    • Cursor: Increase the size of the cursor and switch it to black and white.
    • Dictionary: Looks up the meaning of words or phrases without leaving the page.

Commitment to ongoing improvement

We are constantly working towards maintaining and improving accessibility on this website. We understand that accessibility is not only a legal requirement, but also a key pillar of our commitment to inclusion and equality of opportunity.

We are fully aware that, despite our best efforts, it may be the case that some pages or sections of the website are not fully accessible, either because they were not identified in the review process or because the most appropriate technology for the content has not yet been found. We will continue to work on improving accessibility and are committed to having a website that can be used by everyone, including those with disabilities.
