The Ministry of Health grants this accreditation to centres that apply for it through the Quality Agency.
In order to obtain CSUR status, it is necessary to undergo an external inspection that confirms the level of compliance with a series of common and specific standards. The requirements include consideration of patient’s rights, the implementation of a quality assurance programme and the preparation of an annual audit plan.
In order for a centre, department or unit to be given CSUR status, it must demonstrate extensive knowledge and experience in the management of different diseases, techniques and procedures. It must also prove that it has a certain volume of activity as well as the equipment and personnel necessary to provide its patients with quality care.
Likewise, the regulation establishes the need for an information system that allows the activity to be analysed and the quality of the services provided to be evaluated. It also places value on whether or not the centre is able to train other professionals in the area in question.
