Microphthalmia

We seek to achieve maximum symmetry in orbital and facial development

Microphthalmia is a disorder where the eyes are abnormally small. At SJD Barcelona Children's Hospital, our team includes a paediatric ophthalmologist and plastic surgeon who work together on the diagnosis and treatment. We seek to achieve maximum symmetry in orbital and facial development.

We carry out genetic studies and a multiorgan MRI review.

We use different methods to suit each case:

  • Porous orbital implants.
  • Fornix reconstruction.
  • Bony orbit reconstruction.
  • Mucosal and dermal fat grafts.
  • Fat microfilling.
