The Hospital Sant Joan de Déu recently gathered in Barcelona a hundred children and young people from Europe and the United States to advise institutions and researchers from around the world in clinical trials and other projects of medicine and innovation. These children and young people, between 10 and 21 years, are part of the 17 groups of scientific advisers that have been created in the United States, Canada, France and the United Kingdom within the international network of ICAN (International Children 's Advisory Network) which integrates the groups KIDS (Kids and Families Impacting Disease through Science).
The ICAN was born in 2015 to give voice to children and adolescents in the processes of research and innovation, and hospitals, health consortium, educational centers and other institutions around the world participate in it. The Hospital Sant Joan de Déu is the first hospital in Spain that has a scientific council composed of children and adolescents and the organizer of the second meeting of the groups KIDS.
Over the course of a week, these young scientific advisors pooled the initiatives that have been carried out in their respective countries, and advanced in the knowledge of materials on research, medicine and innovation, as well as those aspects that impact on the prevention of health and that will enable them to deepen their work as advisors.
