Gema Escribano Serrano

I hold a degree in Biochemistry and Biomedical Sciences from the Universitat de València. I also have a Master’s degree in Genetics and Genomics from the Universitat de Barcelona and a Master’s degree in Clinical Genetics from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. I began my professional career in the field of genetic diagnosis and reproductive genetics, working at Igenomix and the Valencian Institute of Infertility (IVI). I currently work as a genetic counsellor in the Medical Genetics Department at SJD Barcelona Children's Hospital, where I provide clinical care in the fields of paediatric and prenatal genetics.

My main areas of interest include person- and family-centred care during the diagnostic process, as well as sensory disorders and the implementation of genomic medicine in neonatal screening. I believe that listening to and acknowledging each family’s concerns, and supporting them throughout the diagnostic process, is just as important as reaching a diagnosis.
