Georgia Sarquella Brugada

I am a specialist in paediatric arrhythmias, family cardiology and sudden death. I am currently head of the Paediatric Cardiology Department and head of the Arrhythmia Unit at SJD Barcelona Children's Hospital. For a number of years I was an attending physician in congenital heart diseases at the Hôpital Necker Enfants Malades and at the Hospital Européen George Pompidou, in Paris. I have also worked at the General Hospital of Catalonia, the Sant Bernabé Hospital in Berga, and at the Sports Cardiology Group of FC Barcelona.

I am the president of the Spanish Society of Pediatric Cardiology and Thematic Area Leader of GUARD-Heart European Reference Network in rare Cardiac Diseases, promoting cross-border excellence in rare cardiac diseases. I collaborate closely with patient associations, fostering awareness, education, and family-centered care.

My goal is to make my patients' lives as normal as possible, whatever illness they could have.

Scientific activity

• Leading the research group on pediatric arrhythmias, genetic cardiology and sudden death and how to apply this knowledge in personalized therapies in patients with genetic diseases.
• Leading advanced clinical and research programs in pediatric electrophysiology and inherited cardiac diseases, focusing on conditions such as Brugada syndrome, long QT syndrome, and cardiomyopathies.
• Extensive experience in translational research integrating clinical practice, genetics, and functional modeling.
• Leading and participating in numerous national and international research projects and collaborations and she is the PI for several clincial trials in pediatric cardiology including gene therapy for inherited cardiac diseases.
