International Hospital Federation prize for a bed management system devised by the SJD Barcelona Children’s Hospital
It was selected out of 160 hospital initiatives from 33 countries around the world
A bed management tool devised by the SJD Barcelona Children’s Hospital has been awarded in the 42nd IHF World Hospital Congress held from 10 to 12 October in Brisbane, Australia.
The International Hospital Federation (IHF) chose it from the 160 hospital initiatives submitted by 33 countries worldwide, selecting it as the Silver winner in the Excellence Award for Leadership and Management in Healthcare.
The system developed by the SJD Barcelona Children’s Hospital is based on combining real and estimated data to establish an algorithm which allows bed availability to be predicted 24 hours in advance. This information allows for decisions to be made which tailor the capacity of the ward to the scheduled activity and the needs of emergency patient admissions.
The tool is based on identifying when corrective decisions need to be made, thus avoiding doing so when not required. This makes it possible to minimise saturation situations by taking corrective measures on time.
