Enrique Jiménez Gañan

I am an optician and optometrist with over 25 years’ professional experience, nearly two decades of which I have spent at the SJD Barcelona Children's Hospital, specialising in paediatric ophthalmology. My current work focuses on advanced functional and diagnostic examinations, the fitting of special contact lenses, and collaboration in the comprehensive management of complex ophthalmological patients. At the same time, I am actively involved in teaching, training healthcare professionals, clinical research and scientific dissemination, with numerous publications and presentations to my name.

My professional focus at SJD Barcelona is on consolidating our leadership in paediatric optometry, promoting healthcare innovation projects and strengthening the integration of optometry within multidisciplinary teams to provide increasingly specialised, sustainable and patient-centred care.

• Co-author of the scientific article “Posterior embryotoxon as the first ophthalmological sign of Axenfeld-Rieger syndrome”, published by the Sociedad Española de Oftalmología, 2023.
• Researcher in telemedicine applied to the screening and monitoring of retinopathy of prematurity. National and international scientific publications, 2014-2015.
