The SJD Barcelona Children's Hospital strengthens its ties with Mexico

25 November 2025

Over one hundred professionals took part in the event in Mexico to exchange experiences, share knowledge and consolidate partnerships and alliances.

In late October, the SJD Barcelona Children's Hospital was part of a special event for healthcare professionals and institutions that was held in the gardens of the Spanish Ambassador’s residence in Mexico.

More than one hundred healthcare specialists took part in the event, allowing for the exchange of experiences, sharing of knowledge and the consolidation of partnerships and alliances between hospitals, insurers, universities and other Mexican entities.

For over 15 years, the Hospital has had an active partnership with hospitals in Mexico and wider Latin America for training healthcare professionals and creating knowledge exchange networks, thereby strengthening the medical capabilities of the country.

During the event, Dr Patricia Montealegre, Director of the International Department at the SJD Barcelona Children's Hospital, noted that: ‘Luckily, children are a healthy part of the population that does not often get sick, and the majority of those that do are able to be treated in Mexico. However, there is a small minority with very rare or complex diseases that require treatments that are available in very few centers around the world, ones like ours, that conduct research and apply pioneering therapies.’

The cultural and linguistic proximity between Mexico and Spain, combined with the professional calibre and specialist nature of the hospital, means many Mexican families place their faith in the SJD Barcelona Children's Hospital to treat their children.

From the SJD Barcelona Children's Hospital, we want to express our sincerest gratitude for the warm welcome and support we have received in Mexico. We will continue our work to strengthen the bonds of collaboration with healthcare institutions in the country, with a common goal in mind: to provide care and improve the health and wellbeing of Mexican children.
