Specialties

In the Pediatric Dermatology Department of SJD Barcelona Children's Hospital, we treat all skin, nail and hair diseases in children, from the most common to the rarest congenital and acquired diseases, especially in their most severe form. We also treat skin manifestations of other internal diseases.

Haemangiomas (angiomas) and vascular malformations

Multidisciplinary diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up of children with haemangiomas, vascular tumours, and vascular malformations. We offer surgery, sclerosis, embolisation, laser treatment, and medical treatment.

Epidermolysis bullosa

We have a team of dermatologists, pediatricians, nutritionists, geneticists, psychologists, rehabilitators and nurses, as well as hospitalisation units highly specialised in treatments for this disease and family education.

Ichthyosis and other keratinisation disorders

We are a centre of reference (CSUR) for keratinisation disorders and we offer a multidisciplinary approach and genetic diagnosis of children with keratinisation disorders.

Neurocutaneous syndromes

As a centre of reference, we have a multidisciplinary team of dermatologists, geneticists, neurologists, and oncologists for the follow-up of children with neurofibromatosis and tuberous sclerosis. We treat symptomatic gliomas and neurofibromas.

Laser Unit

PDL, Nd/YAG, Alexandrite laser; and CO2 to treat children with capillary, venous, lymphatic malformations, melanocytic nevi, café-au-lait spots, epidermal nevi, Sturge-Weber syndrome, Klippel-Trénaunay syndrome, among others.

Atopy

We treat the most severe atopic dermatitis (eczema) and offer innovative treatments to improve the quality of life of our patients and their families. We have a therapeutic education programme for parents and patients.

Psoriasis

We have extensive experience in systemic treatments for severe psoriasis. In collaboration with Hospital Clínic, we diagnose severe forms of psoriasis that start during childhood and adolescence and which may be genetic in origin.

Acne

It is our philosophy that adolescents should not suffer due to acne. There is a solution to acne, and appropriate treatment can prevent permanent scarring.

Congenital melanocytic nevi and dysplastic nevi

Study and monitoring of children with giant congenital melanocytic nevi and laser treatment or plastic surgery in select cases. Monitoring of dysplastic nevi with digital epiluminescence. We offer the molecular study of nevi.

Xeroderma pigmentosum and other genodermatoses

We treat rare genetic skin disorders (genodermatoses), such as xeroderma pigmentosum and ectodermal dysplasias, and we also perform molecular diagnosis. We are members of the European Reference Network for Rare Skin Diseases (SKIN-ERN).

Connective tissue diseases

We provide a multidisciplinary approach for children with lupus, dermatomyositis and morphea, together with our hospital's Rheumatology Department.

Chronic urticaria

Urticaria (hives), when it persists for more than 6 weeks, is considered chronic and is not usually caused by an allergy. We offer treatment for proper control of the disease.

Hair and nail diseases

We diagnose and treat congenital and acquired hair and nail diseases, from alopecia to hair shaft disorders.
