Your stay at the Hospital
SJD Barcelona Children's Hospital has emotional support services for patients and their family members to help reduce the impact of treatment and hospitalisation. In addition, the Hospital has specially designed spaces that are fully adapted for use by children, aimed at making hospital stays more comfortable. There are also other facilities near the Hospital.
Child Life
The Hospital works closely with healthcare and childhood specialists to reduce the impact of disease and hospitalisation on children and their family members. The Child Life team helps patients better face the hospital experience by providing them with therapeutic play spaces and preparing them for the procedures they will be having done. Specialists ensure that both the patient and their family members are optimally adapted to their new reality, promoting better emotional well-being.
Spiritual and religious guidance
We are all looking for answers to the big questions in life, even more so in the face of illness and suffering. We ask ourselves why this is happening, why us, why now, and many more questions. Religion is a form of experiencing and understanding spirituality, though not everyone embraces their spirituality through religion. The diversity of origins, traditions and religions welcomed by our hospital means we must offer a unique response to each and every person who walks through our doors.
Volunteering
SJD Barcelona Children's Hospital has more than 300 healthcare volunteers who dedicate their time to looking after hospitalised patients and their families, or those who are here for treatment. They care for the children, provide support to their family members when they most need it, organise workshops and leisure activities in the play rooms and bring toys, stories and computers to the patients' rooms.
Services
Open from 7:30 am (8:30 am weekends and holidays) until 9:30 pm. Lunch and dinner times can be found at the entrance. You can request more information about special dietary requirements.
You can find vending machines on every ward, with snacks and various other products—such as nappies, pacifiers and tokens for bedding for guests—as well as filtered water fountains.
With newspapers, gifts, toys and personal hygiene products, among others. You can find it in the main lobby.
There is a microwave on every ward. The washing machine is in area B11, and works using tokens that you can buy in the shop in the main lobby.
The chapel is located in the main lobby and accommodates various religious observances. Silent rooms are non-denominational, and are open to anyone who requires a space for quiet reflection.
There is a CaixaBank branch in the main lobby of the Hospital, along with an ATM. Business hours are listed on the door.
