Orthopaedics and Traumatology: What makes us different

We are a leader in Spain and internationally

  • We have been designated as a leading centre in orthopaedic and trauma surgery in Spain by the Spanish Ministry of Health, through CSUR accreditation. The Brachial Plexus Surgery Unit is also recognised as a leading unit on a national level.
  • We are leaders in surgery to correct scoliosis. We operate on more than 100 children per year. Thanks to our great reputation on an international level, we have patients from other countries who request our services privately.
  • We are leaders in surgery on bone tumours and complex pelvis and hip reconstructions. Before the procedure, we perform 3D simulations that reproduce the patient's anatomy. We are leaders in the treatment of clubfoot using the Ponseti method.
  • Leaders in hip reconstruction in adolescents. Periacetabular osteotomy and intra-articular reconstruction.

Our experience allows us to innovate

  • We have extensive experience in prostheses in children and youth. Currently, we are monitoring more than 100 children and adolescents between 1 day and 20 years of age with amputations at different levels of the arms and legs. In 2008, we were the first in Europe to implant a bionic hand in a child.

We are experts in nervous and vascular microsurgery.

  • Leaders in tissue transplants for musculoskeletal system regeneration and world leaders in bone regeneration through vascularised periosteal transplant. In 2015, we were the first in the world to perform this operation
  • We are leaders in minimally invasive techniques such as percutaneous surgery to treat problems in all joints and locations: hallux valgus deformities (bunions), anterior cruciate ligament problems, meniscus problems, kneecap problems, osteochondritis, cavovarus feet, flat feet and tarsal coalitions (multiple publications in international scientific journals).
  • We are leaders in the use of endoscopy in musculoskeletal diseases, including tarsal coalitions and Sprengel deformities, on which we performed the first endoscopic correction in the world in 2015.
  • We prioritise biological regeneration techniques such as plasma rich in growth factors and stem cells. We associate these therapies with sports problems which are generally treated with arthroscopy.

High level of specialisation and multidisciplinarity

  • We take a multidisciplinary approach to the care that we provide in collaboration with the best physicians from other specialities.
  • We have highly specialised units to offer comprehensive care to children with tumours; diseases of the spine, knee and hip; birth defects; dysmetria; clubfoot; and cerebral palsy.
  • We offer comprehensive and multidisciplinary care to patients with cerebral palsy. We treat deformities of the legs, arms and spine.
